The cheapest way is the A1 Flyer bus, from £9.50 per person, and we'll say that plainly. The cheapest taxi is a pre-booked fixed price, from £39 for the whole car. At two people it's a dead heat, £19 on the bus against £19.50 in the car. From three people up the car wins outright, and it takes you door to door.
Checked August 2026.
The actual maths, per person
| 1 person | 2 people | 3 people | 4 people | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| A1 Flyer bus (£9.50 each) | £9.50 | £19.00 | £28.50 | £38.00 |
| Pre-booked taxi (£39 fixed) | £39 | £19.50 | £13.00 | £9.75 |
On your own, the bus wins comfortably. At two people the two are within 50p of each other, so the door-to-door part decides it. At three the car is less than half the bus, and at four it's under £10 each.
Prices above are city centre to Bristol Airport. Longer runs scale the same way: Bath is £59, Cardiff is £109.
Why "cheapest" and "lowest quote" aren't the same thing
The number you're quoted isn't always the number you pay. Things that move it:
- Surge. App pricing rises with demand, which means it rises exactly when you need it, at 5am and when a delayed flight lands at midnight.
- Not knowing until the end. If you haven't agreed a price before you travel, you find out what the journey cost when it's over. That's fine on a clear run and less fine when the A38 is down to one lane.
- Waiting time. If your flight is late, check whether waiting is charged. Ours isn't for the first 45 minutes after you land.
- Card fees and extras. Worth checking before you book anywhere.
Our fixed price covers flight tracking, the first 45 minutes of waiting after you land, and card payment with no fee. Child, infant and booster seats are £5. Meet and greet inside arrivals is £15. That's the full list of extras, and we'd rather put it here than have you find it at checkout.
How to actually get the lowest fare
- Book online rather than phoning. It's 20% cheaper, because it doesn't take one of our people ten minutes.
- Book the return at the same time. Both legs fixed, and the return tracks your inbound flight.
- Give us the flight number, not a time. If you guess the time and the flight moves, you may end up rebooking. The flight number handles it.
- Take the smallest car that fits. An MPV costs about £30 more than a saloon. If four of you have two cases between you, you don't need it.
- Book early for dawn flights. Not cheaper as such, but the early slots go first, and scrambling on the day is where people end up paying whatever's available.
When the bus really is the right answer
One person, hand luggage only, not in a rush. The A1 Flyer runs 24 hours a day, up to every 8 minutes at peak, takes 30 to 40 minutes to Temple Meads and the Centre, and starts at £9.50. That is a good deal and we are not going to argue with it.
It stops being the clear answer once there are two of you, and it stops being the cheaper answer at three. Cases you would rather not haul, or a delayed flight putting you at the terminal at half past midnight, tip it further.
