How do I get a taxi from Ashley Down station?

Pre-book one, because Ashley Down is a two-platform local station rather than somewhere cars wait. To Bristol Airport expect roughly £39 to £49 depending on your exact pickup, which is an honest band rather than a quoted fare, since we have not published a single fixed price for BS7 yet. The long-distance runs are exact: £179 to Heathrow, £159 to the Southampton cruise terminal. There is no general car park here, only accessible bays, so somebody dropping you off cannot leave a car. Booked ahead only, online or on 0117 966 6666.

Checked September 2026.

What a journey from Ashley Down costs

Two of these are exact published fares and one is an honest estimate, and the table says which is which.

From Ashley Down toFareTypical time

Gatwickfrom £229 fixedabout 2h 45m

Bathfrom £59 fixedabout 35 min

*The airport row is a band, not a quote. BS7 is not on our published price list yet, so rather than invent a figure we have read it across from the areas next door that we do price: the city centre at £39 and Filton at £49. Your exact fixed price comes back from the quote form in a few seconds, and that number is the one that holds. The full method is on the fares by area page.

Saloon prices, for up to 4 passengers with 2 large cases. Estates, 6-seater MPVs and 8-seater minibuses carry more and cost more; the luggage and vehicle sizes page sets out which is which, and the quote form prices your actual trip.

There is no car park at Ashley Down

Only a pair of accessible bays, so nobody can park and ride from this station. Your driver waits in the main pickup and drop-off area at the station, and confirms it with you when you book.

It is worth knowing before you plan around it. If a friend is dropping you off they are stopping on the street and going, not leaving the car for a week while you fly. If you were thinking of driving here to catch a train onward, you want Bristol Parkway, which has a large car park, rather than this one.

What the station does have is the things that make it pleasant to use: two platforms, a footbridge with lifts so it is step-free throughout, covered shelters on both sides, cycle parking at the entrance and a level route in. If you need a wheelchair accessible vehicle, book well ahead and read what we can and cannot offer on the accessible taxi page first.

If your train is delayed

Tell us straight away, and the driver moves with the train.

Two things we need from you, and they are the whole arrangement. Tell us which train you are on when you book, and tell us straight away if it is delayed. Your driver is timed to arrive when the train actually arrives, so a delay you do not pass on is a car sitting there for a train that is not coming.

Worth being straight about the numbers: a train pickup includes five minutes' free waiting, where our airport work includes flight tracking and 45 minutes. Five minutes is enough to walk off a platform and out of the building, and it is not enough to absorb a late train. That is the whole reason we ask you to tell us.

For a short hop, the train or the bus usually wins

If you are going into central Bristol, do not book a taxi. Get the train.

Ashley Down runs an hourly service into Bristol Temple Meads, and it sits a few minutes' walk from the Gloucester Road corridor, which is one of the best-served bus routes in the city. For a trip into town, a car is the slowest way to spend the most money, and we would rather tell you that than take the booking.

Where we are worth calling is the journeys the local network handles badly: an early flight, a run to Heathrow or Gatwick, a cruise sailing, or any trip with real luggage and more than one person. The airport is the clearest case, because there is no railway station at Bristol Airport at all, so the public transport version is a train into Temple Meads and then the A1 Flyer bus, at £9.50 and around half an hour on top of the first leg.

The station that came back after sixty years

Ashley Down opened on 28 September 2024, the first station here since the 1960s.

It serves Bishopston, Horfield and the Gloucester Road end of north Bristol, and it is managed by Great Western Railway on the hourly run between Temple Meads and Filton Abbey Wood. From autumn 2026 that service extends further up the reopened Henbury line, calling at the new Bristol Brabazon station, which makes Ashley Down an intermediate stop on a longer line rather than the end of a short branch.

Fares to the rest of the city are on the fares by area page, and there is every Bristol station compared side by side.

Tick Taxi is an independent private hire operator licensed by South Gloucestershire Council and Bristol City Council. All pickups are pre-booked. We are not affiliated with Great Western Railway, Network Rail or the station, and nothing here is an official station service. Station details from Network Rail, checked September 2026.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a taxi from Ashley Down station to Bristol Airport?
Expect roughly £39 to £49. That is an honest band rather than a quote, because BS7 is not on our published price list yet; we have read it across from the city centre at £39 and Filton at £49. The quote form gives you the exact fixed price for your address.
Is there a car park at Ashley Down station?
No general car park, only a pair of accessible bays. You cannot park and ride from here. For station parking you want Bristol Parkway instead.
Is there a taxi rank at Ashley Down station?
Ashley Down is a small two-platform station and we could not confirm whether it has a rank, so we are not going to tell you either way. It makes no difference to us: we are private hire, so our cars are booked in advance rather than picked up from a rank.
What happens if my train is delayed?
Tell us as soon as you know. Your driver is timed to arrive when the train actually arrives, so we need the update to move the car. Train pickups include five minutes' free waiting, against 45 minutes on our airport work, so five minutes does not absorb a late train and the update is what matters.
Is Ashley Down station step-free?
Yes. There is a footbridge with lifts to both platforms, covered shelters and a level route to the entrance.
Can I get a train from Ashley Down to Bristol Airport?
No, the airport has no railway station. It is an hourly train into Bristol Temple Meads and then the A1 Airport Flyer bus, £9.50 single and around half an hour, carrying your own bags across the change.
Can I get a taxi from Ashley Down to somewhere other than the airport?
Yes. We pick up from here to anywhere in Bristol, along Gloucester Road, into Bishopston and Horfield, or further afield, not only the airport. There is no single fixed fare for local journeys the way there is for the airport run, because the price depends on where you are actually going, so put your destination into the quote form and the fixed price comes back before you commit to anything.
