Turn up at Bristol Airport for a week without booking and Silver Zone costs £240 at the gate. A return taxi from central Bristol is from £78, fixed. That is the honest headline, and it is the comparison most articles quietly avoid.
Pre-book the parking and the gap narrows, sometimes a lot. But the airport publishes no fixed pre-booked rate, it quotes you a price that moves with your dates, so the only figures anyone can put in writing are the gate prices below.

The charge almost everyone forgets
If someone drops you off rather than you parking, the airport still charges. The Drop Off & Pick Up car park sits on the Transport Interchange, the closest car park to the terminal, and it is built for stays of up to ten minutes.

Two hours is the maximum stay and there is a 2.5m height limit, so anything taller needs the Minibus and Over Height car park. It is fully cashless: the barrier reads your registration on entry and you pay on exit by contactless, Chip & PIN, Apple Pay or Google Pay, with no card surcharge.
One thing worth knowing that the airport does not advertise loudly: Blue Badge holders get up to 40 minutes for £8.50 by scanning the barcode on the back of the badge at the exit barrier, and whoever is dropping them off can do the same.
And do not stop on the approach roads to save the fee. The airport road network is a Red Route, camera enforced, no stopping even to pick someone up. The penalty is £100, reduced to £60 if you pay within 14 days, which is more than a fortnight of parking.
Every Bristol Airport car park, and what it costs at the gate
Bristol Airport runs seven car parks and they are not interchangeable. These are the published turn-up gate prices. Booking online is cheaper in every case, but the airport quotes those prices dynamically rather than publishing them, so treat the gate price as the worst case and your quote as the real number.
Silver Zone, shuttle bus to the terminal, aimed at stays of three days or more. Allow 15 to 25 minutes each way for the transfer including the wait.

Waiting Zone, the only free option on the airport site, meant for waiting before a pick-up and then moving to the Drop Off & Pick Up car park. A frequent shuttle runs to the Transport Interchange from the Car Rental Centre, a short walk away.

There is a no-return-within-30-minutes rule, so you cannot circle between the Waiting Zone and the terminal.
Meet & Greet is a premium concierge service, bookable online in advance only, operating from Level 2 of the Multi-Storey. There is no published gate price. Minibus and Over Height has its own tariff starting at £8.50 for up to 5 minutes, with £30.00 for 40 to 60 minutes and a one hour maximum.

So which is actually cheaper?
Our return fare from central Bristol is from £78 and does not move, whether you are away three days or three weeks. Now put that against the gate prices.

At gate prices it is not close, and it never becomes close, because our fare stops and theirs does not.
Pre-booking changes the picture and we are not going to pretend otherwise. Booked well ahead, Silver Zone comes down a long way, and for a short trip it can beat a taxi outright. The catch is that the airport will not commit to a published rate: the price depends on your dates and how early you book. So the only fair advice is to get both numbers for your actual trip, your fixed quote from us and your live quote from them, and compare those.
What we would say with confidence: if you have not booked parking in advance, do not turn up at the barrier. A week at the gate costs three times a return taxi.
Where you live changes the answer
Our fares are fixed by route, so you can do this sum before you book. Parking costs the same whether you drove from Clifton or Cheltenham, but the taxi does not, and the drive does not either.

Further out the margin narrows, but so does the appeal of driving two hours round trip twice.
The costs that don't show up on the booking page
Parking comparisons usually stop at the car park price. The real total includes a few things people leave out.
Fuel and mileage both ways. From central Bristol that is roughly 16 miles each way, so 32 miles per trip, and twice over if someone drops you and collects you.
The transfer bus. Silver Zone is not walking distance. Allow 15 to 25 minutes each way including the wait, at both ends of your trip, with luggage, possibly at 4am.
The drop off fee, twice. If a friend takes you and collects you, that is £8.50 each way before a drop of fuel.
Two weeks of outdoor parking. Your car sits in a field-edge car park through whatever the weather does.
When parking genuinely wins
We would rather say this plainly than pretend otherwise. Park at the airport if you have booked well in advance and the quote came back low, if you are going for a couple of days, or if you want your own car waiting when you land at midnight.
Take the taxi if you did not pre-book the parking, if you are away more than a few days, if there are three or four of you sharing one fixed fare, if you have children and car seats to think about, or if the Silver Zone shuttle with three suitcases in February is the part of the holiday you are dreading.
