How do I get a taxi from Bristol Brabazon station?

Every fare below is agreed before you travel and does not move afterwards, whatever the traffic does.

Today we pick up at your door anywhere in Brabazon, Filton and Patchway, at the fixed prices above. At the station itself, once it opens, we will not publish a meeting point until we have stood on it.

Confirmed so far: two platforms, step-free access by footbridge and lifts, covered waiting and ticket machines on both platforms, drop-off spaces at the entrance. A staffed ticket office is planned, inside the office building going up above the station, but the regional planning papers describe the autumn 2026 opening itself as unstaffed, with staffing following in a later phase. We could not pin a date on that and are not going to guess one. What we also cannot yet tell you is which side of the building a car can wait on, how long it can stand there, and how far that is from the lift. Those are the details that matter at six in the morning with a case, and guessing would be worse than saying nothing. Your driver waits in the main pickup and drop-off area at the station, and confirms it with you when you book. On opening day this page gets the exact walking route to it from the platform, and a photograph of the spot taken by us, not a stock image of somebody else's station.

Two things we need from you, and they are the whole arrangement. Tell us which train you are on when you book, and tell us straight away if it is delayed. Your driver is timed to arrive when the train actually arrives, so a delay you do not pass on is a car sitting there for a train that is not coming.

Worth being straight about the numbers: a train pickup includes five minutes' free waiting, where our airport work includes flight tracking and 45 minutes. Five minutes is enough to walk off a platform and out of the building, and it is not enough to absorb a late train. That is the whole reason we ask you to tell us.

Yes, there will be one, and we will not be on it.

The plans include a taxi rank and Metrobus stops near the entrance. That rank will be for hackney carriages, the side of the trade that can be hailed and can queue for walk-up work. Ours is the other licence, private hire, which means booked ahead, never flagged down. The part worth thinking about at a station nobody has used yet is that no one knows how busy that rank will be on a wet Tuesday in February, or after the last train on a Saturday.

Booking ahead answers that question in advance: a known price, a known vehicle size and a known time, held for you. On an hourly line with a 6am flight the other side of it, that is usually the trade worth making. But if you do turn up without a booking and there is a car waiting, take it. There is no railway station at Bristol Airport, so the train cannot take you there.

The realistic version from Brabazon is two legs: the Henbury line into Bristol Temple Meads, about 20 minutes, then the A1 Flyer bus out to the terminal, £9.50 single and 30 to 40 minutes. Call it an hour and a quarter if the connection behaves, plus the wait between them, carrying your own bags across the change.

What decides it for most people is frequency: the Henbury line runs one train an hour. Miss it and the next is sixty minutes away, and the bus is still to come at the other end. Against that, £49 is 35 minutes in one car with the boot shut once.

If you are travelling light on your own and your timing is flexible, the train and bus is far cheaper and we are not going to pretend otherwise. The taxi earns its money on an early departure, a group splitting the fare four ways, real luggage, or a flight you cannot afford to be relaxed about. Brabazon is a new neighbourhood on the old Filton Airfield, and the station is being built to serve it.

It sits in the middle of north Bristol's aerospace employers, with Rolls-Royce and Airbus on the doorstep, which is why the weekday traffic here is business travel rather than holiday travel. Cribbs Causeway and Southmead Hospital are both a short run away. Bristol Parkway, a few minutes down the road, is the station for direct trains to London Paddington, and going via Parkway by car is often quicker than taking the hourly line into Temple Meads and changing there.

Aviva Arena opens at Brabazon in late 2028, and the transport maths around this station changes completely on that day.

It is a 20,000-capacity venue in the central Brabazon hangar, expected to host more than 120 major events a year, a few minutes' walk from the station. Two facts matter if you are already wondering how you would get home from a show: the line is hourly, and there is no general public car park at the station, only blue-badge spaces and car parks scattered across the wider site.

We will publish proper arena pickup arrangements nearer the time, once the venue and the council have set out how the roads there actually work on an event night. We are not going to invent them two years early.
