Legally, no. Licensed taxis and private hire vehicles are exempt, so a child over 3 can travel in an adult belt and under 3s can travel unrestrained in the back. We don't think that's a safe way to carry children, so we offer proper infant carriers, child seats and boosters for £5 each, fitted before the driver sets off to you. Just add them at step 3 of booking.

What the law actually says
The child car seat rules that apply to your own car don't apply to licensed taxis. In a taxi, children over 3 must use the adult seat belt, and children under 3 may travel without a restraint in the rear. That's the exemption. It exists so families aren't stranded, not because it's what anyone would choose.

What we'd actually recommend
Book the seat. It's £5, it's the same seat you'd fit yourself, and the driver arrives with it installed. Tell us the age of each child in the booking notes and we'll match the stage: rear-facing carrier for babies, forward-facing for toddlers, booster for the in-betweeners. If you'd rather bring your own seat off the plane, the driver will help you fit it, and we'll carry your empty one in the boot on the return leg.
The family luggage problem
Two adults, two children, two large cases, a buggy and a travel cot don't fit in a saloon. They fit easily in a Ford Galaxy MPV (from about £30 over the saloon fare) with room for everyone to see out the window. Larger families take the 8-seater. If you're not sure, tell us what you're bringing and we'll say honestly which car you need rather than upselling you.
Landing with tired kids
The driver tracks your flight and the first 45 minutes after landing are free, which matters when getting two under-fives, a buggy and a trolley through arrivals takes as long as the flight did. Add meet and greet for £15 and there's a name board and a second pair of hands from the arrivals hall.
