How do I get a taxi from Bristol coach station?

Agreed when you book, unchanged when you arrive, whatever the traffic did in between.

The A1 Airport Flyer calls here and at Temple Meads on its way out to the terminal, so if you have just stepped off a coach and the airport is your next stop, you do not need us and we are not going to pretend you do. Walk to bay 9. It is the honest answer and it is fifty feet away.

Where the arithmetic changes is the same place it always does: people and bags. £39 split between four is £9.75 each, which is 25p more than one bus ticket, for a car that leaves when your coach actually arrives rather than when the timetable says, and takes the cases in the boot. A coach traveller with one rucksack should take the Flyer. Four people off a National Express from Manchester with a case each, at half past eleven at night, are a different problem.

On the journeys the coach network handles worst, and at the hours it handles them.

Heathrow is the clearest. A coach from Bristol to Heathrow is a long sit with a fixed departure time, and if you are connecting to a flight you are building your whole morning around it. £179 fixed is one car leaving when you choose, direct to your terminal kerb. The Southampton cruise terminal at £159 is the same story with more suitcases: cruise luggage and coach travel are a poor match, and there is a taxi at the far end of the rail route anyway.

Then there is the hour. National Express and FlixBus services run into Marlborough Street late, and a long-distance coach that has crossed half the country does not always arrive when it said it would. So tell us which service you are on when you book, and tell us straight away if it is running behind. The driver is timed to your actual arrival rather than to the timetable, which is what keeps the two of you in the same place at the same time. That matters more at midnight than at midday.

Your driver waits at the main entrance, or in the drop-off and pickup area, and confirms which one with you when you book.

The coach station is a covered building with the bays inside it, and the kerb outside is busy with buses and set-down traffic, so the driver confirms exactly where to walk to rather than leaving you scanning Marlborough Street. Tell us the bay your service comes into if you know it, and the operator and arrival time if you do not.

Nineteen bays under one roof on Marlborough Street, run by First Bus, a couple of minutes from Broadmead and Cabot Circus.

National Express and FlixBus coaches use it, local buses run out of the city from it, and the Airport Flyer goes from bay 9. Inside there is a travel shop and ticket desk, a coffee shop, public toilets including an accessible one, and security around the clock, which matters if your coach gets in at an hour when the shops around Broadmead are long shut. We are not printing a full bay-by-bay list: the only stand number we can verify against the registered timetable is the Flyer's bay 9, so read the departure boards for the rest.
