How do I get from Bath Spa station to Bristol Airport?

A pre-booked taxi picks up right outside Bath Spa station for £59 fixed, up to 4 passengers, about 35 minutes door to door. There are two public transport versions: the A4 Air Decker bus direct from Bath bus station, next door to Bath Spa station, at £9.50 single and about an hour with stops, or the train to Bristol Temple Meads (about 12 minutes, around £10) then the A1 Flyer bus to the terminal (£9.50, 30 to 40 minutes), roughly £19.50 once you add both legs, plus the change and the wait between them.

Checked September 2026.

Taxi vs the train-and-bus route

OptionPriceTimeWhat it involves
Taxi from Bath Spa station£59 fixedabout 35 minDirect, no changes, driver waits outside the station
Train to Temple Meads + A1 Flyeraround £19.50 combined45 min to over an hour with the connectionChange platforms at Temple Meads, then a bus with your own bags
A4 Air Decker (from Bath bus station)£9.50 singleabout an hour with stopsLeaves from the bus station next to Bath Spa station, direct to the terminal

The £19.50 is two separate tickets added together, not a through fare, and it assumes the connection at Temple Meads goes smoothly. Miss the Flyer by five minutes at that station and you're waiting for the next one with your cases on the platform.

Doing it with luggage

Neither the train nor the buses have a dedicated luggage van. There's no formal limit on what you can bring, but you're carrying it yourself between the platform at Bath Spa, the platform at Temple Meads, and then on and off the bus. For a case each, that's manageable. For a family with cases, a buggy and the extras a holiday adds on the way home, it's three separate lifts on and off public transport instead of one boot that closes once. Our estate and MPV options take more than a saloon's 2 large cases if you're travelling heavier; the full breakdown is on the luggage and vehicle sizes page.

First and last connections

The A4 Air Decker now runs around the clock, roughly hourly overnight, every day except Christmas Day, so there is a bus at almost any hour. The train side is different: services from Bath Spa thin out early and late and the timetable changes through the year, so we won't print an exact first or last departure here and risk it being wrong by the time you travel. If your flight needs a very early or very late connection, check the live A4 and train times before you rely on them, or book a taxi and remove the question entirely, since we run 24/7 at the same fixed price whatever time you go, from your door rather than the bus station.

The honest version

If you're one person travelling light, the A4 from the bus station at £9.50 is the cheapest way to the airport and we're not going to pretend otherwise. Where the taxi earns its £59 is time and handling: 35 minutes against about an hour, your bags in one boot instead of on and off a bus, a group of three or four splitting the fare, and a car timed to your flight rather than an hourly timetable. Two adults sharing brings the taxi to £29.50 each; four brings it to £14.75, and at that point the gap to the bus is small enough that most groups take the door-to-door version. Frequently asked questions

How much is a taxi from Bath Spa station to Bristol Airport?
£59 fixed, up to 4 passengers, about 35 minutes door to door. The driver picks up right outside the station.
Can I get the train and a bus instead?
Yes. The train to Bristol Temple Meads is about 12 minutes and around £10, then the A1 Flyer bus to the terminal is £9.50 and 30 to 40 minutes, so around £19.50 combined plus the change at Temple Meads.
Does the Air Decker stop at Bath Spa station?
It leaves from Bath bus station on Dorchester Street, a minute or two's walk from the Bath Spa station entrance, and runs direct to the terminal for £9.50 single.
What about heavy luggage on the train?
There's no dedicated luggage space on the train or either bus, so you're carrying your own bags through the change at Temple Meads. A taxi puts everything in the boot once and you're done.
Is there an early morning or late night option from Bath Spa station?
Yes, two. The A4 Air Decker runs roughly hourly through the night from the bus station, and we run 24/7 door to door at the same £59 fixed fare, timed to your flight rather than a timetable.
